Since 1993, rents have increased by 153%! This year, many Rotterdam corporations, investors and private landlords are adding a maximum of 5% on top of that for social housing and 7.7% for mid-range rent! While our wages were moderated, rent has become unaffordable after years of cutbacks, mismanagement and market forces. A quarter of tenants cannot make ends meet after paying their rent! To tackle the housing crisis, the government must structurally invest in public housing instead of unilaterally passing the bill on to the tenants.
