Huurders kunnen in 2025 rekenen op een huurverhoging van maximaal 5% in de sociale sector, 7,7% in de middenhuur en 4,1% in de vrije sector. Na de hoogste huurverhoging in 30 jaar in 2024 volgt in 2025 dus alweer een mega huurverhoging! Ook de verwerpelijke inkomensafhankelijke huurverhogingen van € 50 of € 100 worden in stand gehouden. Terwijl onze lonen tientallen jaren laag werden en worden gehouden, is de huur gigantisch gestegen. Het waren de jaren dat van wonen een markt werd gemaakt. Een kwart van de huurders leeft onder de armoedegrens en een ander groot deel komt financieel niet rond, mede als gevolg van de te hoge huur. Zij moeten op basisbehoeften bezuinigen om de woonlasten te kunnen betalen. Met dit beleid houden we de ongelijkheid, bestaansonzekerheid en de wooncrisis in stand. Wij eisen lagere huren!

Residents of the Bomenland flat in Den Bosch have successfully rejected the huge rent increase that Swedish real estate magnate Heimstaden – who owns the residential complex – wanted to implement this summer.

Since 1993, rents have increased by 141%! By linking the rent increase to wage increases and inflation, tenants can count on a rent increase of up to 5.8% in the social sector and 5.5% in the private sector in 2024. This makes it the highest rent increase in 30 years! The objectionable income-related rent increases of €50 to €100 will also be maintained. While our wages have been moderated, rent has become unaffordable after years of cuts, mismanagement and market forces. A quarter of tenants cannot make ends meet financially after paying the rent.

In response to the impending rent increases that are the highest in 30 years, we call on all tenants to unite and participate in our national online action meeting on May 4. Together we can make a difference in the fight for affordable housing.

Did you know that the rent increase in the social sector may be as much as 5.8 % this year?

Did you know that housing associations usually ask for the maximum rent increase?
Did you know that the Netherlands has the highest rents in Europe?
Did you know that the new construction of social housing is paid for, among other things, from the sale of social housing?
Did you know that landlords are not obliged to give tenants insight into the costs?
Did you know that in 2021 tenants will spend an average of 36.3% of their disposable income on housing costs? For buyers the average is 23.4%.

This year, the highest rent increase in 30 years is imminent. Rents have already increased by more than 35% over the past 10 years. This year they threaten to increase by a maximum of 5.5% in the private sector and by a maximum of 5.8% in social rent. There are also income-related rent increases.

July 1 is just around the corner, and with it the start of the rent increase. Fortunately, you have all signed up en masse to refuse the rent increase and to issue a widely supported statement together. Locally, more and more solidarity networks and initiatives between tenants are emerging!
