17/12/21 – Support for action group We Refuse the Rent Increase is growing! Thanks for that. In this first newsletter we thank everyone who has recently signed up for our newsletter, we discuss recent developments and we ask for support for the upcoming campaign in 2022.
Rent increase refusal wins lawsuit!
Tenant Mike Werkhoven successfully refused the rent increase. His rent increased by 32% to 950 euros after his complex was bought in 2013 by Daelmans Vastgoed, a large private investor. In 2020 he refused his rent increase based on us roadmap, and with success! Read the whole story on our website.
Fear of significant rent increases due to high inflation and additional rent increases for very low rents
As of July 1, 2022 we are heading for a rent increase of 5%, in line with high inflation. Such a rent increase could have disastrous consequences for many Dutch households. In addition, the Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations is introducing a new method for rent increases with regard to “very low” rent.
The new income-related rent increase makes it possible to raise the rents of middle incomes more quickly. The income limits that will apply are higher than the current limit. There is also a distinction according to type of household. From 1 July 2022, new income limits will apply for single and multi-person households. If your income is above that, the monthly rent can be increased by 50 or 100 euros. That replaces a rent increase that is a percentage of your current rent. For independent rental homes (single-family homes, apartments) with a rent below €300, a rent increase of a maximum of €25 will be permitted from 1 July 2022; regardless of the tenant's income.
